So the great David Beckham has finally decided to hang up his shorts.
“It’s amazing, being married to Victoria, because I’m in love with her…and I can also go into her room and use all the body creams and facial creams”.
“Alex Ferguson is the best manager I’ve ever had at this level. Well, he’s the only manager I’ve actually had at this level. But he’s the best manager I’ve ever had”.
“My parents have been there for me, ever since I was about 7”.
“I definitely want Brooklyn to be christened, but I don’t know into what religion yet.”
Asked if he’s a “volatile” player – “Well, I can play in the centre, on the right and occasionally on the left side.”
“My wife has that sort of thing that when we are on live TV, she likes to say certain things like me wearing her knickers. She actually said that, which I don’t … most of the time.”
“I’ve tried to speak to him about it – but I can’t understand him.” Real Madrid teammate Roberto Carlos on Beckham’s affair with Rebecca Loos.
“Pele was a complete player. I didn’t see him live obviously, because I wasn’t born”
“Some people think that I haven’t got the brains to be that clever.”
“We have got great individuals but this team is not about individuals,”
“In Spain people have lunch and dinner a lot later – when I return to England I’ll have to eat alone at midnight.”
“At home things are hard. For instance, my curtains are never open, I get no privacy at all. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I saw daylight in my house.”
“It’s one thing I like about America – they respect the sportsman. They put them up on a pedestal. They don’t try to knock them down. And that’s a great thing, to be respected by the whole country. It’s so patriotic!”
Becks will be missed but he could get a new job as speech writer for Wayne Rooney which would keep his words in the headlines of the satirical press for a bit longer. News today that Rooney wants his new son “Klay” to be a model when he’s older but apparently Becks thinks Rooney should call him “Kanga.”
As the news spreads of Beckham’s retirement from football, I see he’s “trending” (as the young people say) and let’s face it, no-one can trend it like Beckham.
